Engines that power – and protect

Rolls-Royce is the world’s second largest provider of defence aero-engine products and services, with 18,000 engines in service for 160 customers in over 100 countries. Our engines power aircraft in all sectors: transport, combat, reconnaissance, training, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles.

The aircraft flown by the famous RAF display team, the Red Arrows, for instance, are powered by the Rolls-Royce Adour engine. The Adour is a two-shaft turbofan engine, with an engine cycle that has been designed to meet the dual requirements of ground attack and advanced training, either on land or carrier-based. Using the reheat power option, the Adour can achieve a thrust of up to 8,340lbf. As a result of its performance and reliability, we have sold over 2,800 of these engines, and recently secured an order from India worth £200 million.
