Monarch of the skies

Monarch Airlines is the UK’s largest independent charter airline with more than 90 customers.

Long-haul charter destinations include Goa, the Maldives, Mombasa, the Caribbean and Florida.

Monarch’s fleet consists of Trent 700 powered A330s, RB211 powered 757s and the airline has six Boeing 787s on order, all to be powered by the Trent 1000.

The Rolls-Royce Trent 700s achieved their first decade in service with the airline in 2009 and according to Tim Jeans, Managing Director of Monarch Airlines they are ‘phenomenal workhorses with impressive reliability.’ The engines operate 14 hours a day, reaching around 6,000 hours a year. The Trent engines are approaching 23,000 hours between planned overhauls.

For the short-haul market, Monarch is standardising its fleet around 21 Airbus A320s and A321s, with 16 A321s powered by the International Aero Engines (IAE) V2500.  This fleet operates scheduled routes to Spain, Portugal, the Canaries, the Balearic Islands and Cyprus.
