Rolls-Royce announced today that specialist leasing company LCAL has selected Trent 1000 engines to power five more Boeing 787-8 aircraft in a deal valued at more than $170 million.
Dubai-based LCAL, which already has six Trent 1000-powered Boeing 787s on firm order, has based its business exclusively on the Boeing 787. It became the first leasing company to order the aircraft in 2005, when LCAL was established, and it will be the first leasing company to take delivery of the aircraft.
Nick Devall, Executive Vice President – Airlines, Rolls-Royce said: “LCAL’s decision to establish its business case on just the Boeing 787 shows the strength of demand for this aircraft. Its selection of Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 power for more than 50 per cent of its firm orders is a clear indication of the popularity of the Trent family in the widebody market.”
Steve Clarke, President and Chief Operating Officer, LCAL said: “As the first leasing company to order this revolution in passenger aircraft, we are delighted to also be associated with Rolls-Royce who have provided the launch engine for the Boeing 787.”
The Trent 1000 maintains the 100 per cent record of Rolls-Royce over the past two decades in achieving on-time certification for all aero engine development programmes.
Rolls-Royce has a leading 50 per cent market share on modern widebody aircraft, with more than 1,400 Trent engines in service on over 550 aircraft and around 2,500 on backlog. Each of its six Trent engines has either been the first or launch engine on the airframe, or has gone on to take the leading market share.
