We have contributed to Italy's economy through our manufacturing operations, services and research. Our facilities offer a range of advanced products with low environmental impact to help Italian clients increase their efficiency, reliability and productivity.
More than 1,600 engines are in use in Italy across aerospace, marine and energy applications.
For over 50 years, Rolls-Royce has had a strong presence in Italy, with a permanent regional office based in Rome, Marine Services in Genoa and EMA in Morra de Sanctis.
Europea Microfusioni Aerospaziali S.p.a. (EMA) a wholly owned subsidiary of Rolls-Royce, is a world class castings foundry, manufacturing high technology components for gas turbine engines for civil, defence, marine and energy applications, including the Trent 900 and Trent 1000.
The group has around 500 employees in the country and generates indirect employment for suppliers, partners and licensees in several regions.
Civil Aerospace
- Several Gulfstream business jets are owned by Italian companies using the BR710 engine.
Defence Aerospace
- Rolls-Royce powers the attack, defence, transport, and training fleets of the Italian Air Force. The front line is made up of RB199 powered Tornados and EJ200 powered Eurofighters. MB-339 jet trainers have Viper engines
- The AMX ground attack jet is powered by Spey; the C-130J and Alenia C-27J transport planes are equipped with AE2100 engines and the MD500 helicopter is powered by the M250 engine
- The Italian Air Force Frecce Tricolori acrobatic team flies Aermacchi MB339s powered by Rolls-Royce Viper engines
- The Italian Navy aircraft carrier Garibaldi houses a fleet of Pegasus powered STOVL AV-8B Harriers
- The Army’s AW-129 Mangusta attack helicopters have twin Gem engines and their A109 and AB206 helicopters are powered by the M250 engine
- Several paramilitary forces operate the M250 powered A109, AB206, MD500 helicopters
- The light trainer AerMacchi M290TP and the SF.260TP are both equipped with the M250 turboprop as is the Vulcanair Viator
- The AW T129 is powered by the T800 engines.
Marine
- Rolls-Royce works with ship and yacht builders and operators in the merchant, off-shore and naval sectors
- Power and propulsion, transmission, motion control and deck machinery systems are widely used including fast ferries and Finance Police fast patrol boats
- Kamewa waterjets are widely used on both civil and military platforms
- Several UT-design offshore vessels are in service with Italian operators.
Energy
- More than 140 Turbines and Bergen gas engines are installed in Italy and demand for the engines is strong
- ENI subsidiary SNAM operates Rolls-Royce compressor systems.
