Upgrading

Updating to the latest technology can pay dividends with fuel savings and improved vessel performance.

In-service equipment is expected to last 25 years or more, but during that time there may have been changes in the way the vessel is operated, and there will have been tremendous advances in the hydrodynamic tools and manufacturing techniques used. For a relatively small investment, significant improvements in performance with lower running costs could be available.

A typical example is propeller design. Replacing old blades with new ones on an existing CP hub can improve propulsive efficiency, significantly reducing fuel consumption.

Because Rolls-Royce has built up a body of knowledge and experience in hull/propeller/rudder interaction payback of any investment can be fully evaluated, normally with model tests to determine the level of improvement that can be expected.

To combat excessive oil consumption on Bergen and Pielstick engines, a new piston ring and liner upgrade offers a rapid payback. Power upgrades are also available for older Bergen engines.

Upgrading to the latest technology can:

  • Significantly improve fuel consumption

  • Reduce vibration and maintenance

  • Increase towing power

  • Increase top speed

  • Simplify operation
